What is AURA?
Since my childhood, I had been seeing something round in shape
glowing in white or yellow around the heads of the poses, idols,
statues and figures of Gods and Goddesses. If I remember, though I
knew that no one had seen it, even than it was told by my elders and
teaches that this halo is called the TEJ or ABHA-MANDAL,
a sort of shining circle with one who is bestowed with highly
evolved souls and divine powers. At that time, I could not realize
that everyone has the same light which, later I studies, learnt and
seen. I also came across its name as AURA and its
significance. Perhaps it may be difficult for most of the people to
believe but today I can show Aura to everyone with naked eyes. I can
take the photograph of each living & non living being & give
the computerized Aura presentation. The word AURA is
becoming very common now a days. Few of us have heard of the word Aura
that encircles around the heads of great sages & saints in
almost all the cultures on this earth. In fact all of us are
surrounded by our Auras even though we may not be able to see it.
This is our personal energy shield that protects us from harmful
outside influences. The shape, size & shine of the Aura silently
expresses the highness, purity & divinity of the human being. An
Aura is a thermo-electrical field that emanates from everything
including animate or inanimate. In other words, Aura is the envelope
of energy that surrounds each living and non-living being like
animals, table, chair, bed, window, grass, plants, stone, earth,
religious Gurus, showpieces, home gadgets etc. That is why the
progressive & technologically advanced Vaastu consultants have
started to penetrate deeper into the bio-energies, talked in Vaastu
science, through site scanning techniques i.e. Aura Scanning. In
human, it is thought to one of the mean to trace out the impending
pathological, mental and life-span related troubles in advance.
Thus, the concerned Aura practitioner may warn us about
the illness even weeks before the problem becomes prominent to
oneself or to the doctors. The Indian metaphysics describes an Aura
as an emanation which can be judged, felt or seen with a spiritually
charged great man like spiritual Gurus & true priests at the
time of meditation.
The concept of Aura is very old and its instrumental visibility was
conceived by Russian scientists Seymon and Valentina Kirlian who
discovered KIRLIAN camera to take the highlighted fingerprints of
Aura during 1920s. Therefore Aura study is not a new thing, but
advanced and useful applications in today context are in infancy
stage. Ancient Egyptians, Romans & Greeks associated Aura with
the soul and the seers supernatural forces that were very common in
those days artwork and paintings. The commonly used term for energy
scanning is Poly-contrast Interference Photography (PIP Energy Field
Imaging), invented by Harry Oldfield. PIP is a way of looking at
photon (light) interferences and its changes around and from the
human body through specially developed computer software. These
minute changes, normally invisible to the naked eye are picked up,
processed and analyzed through the computer to show energy patterns
around and within the human body. These photons are affected by
energies emanating from the human body and the surrounding
environmental energies. The colours and patterns seen seemed to
correspond to what mystics and psychics describe and see.
Dr. Tom Chalklo, a scientist working at University of Melbourne,
Australia, who has been studying Aura, describes the Aura as "bio-energy
vibrations radiating in all the directions". The human aura is,
according to him, partly composed of electromagnetic radiation, "spanning
from the infrared to the ultraviolet (UV)". "While the low
frequency part of the spectrum seems to be related to the low levels
of functioning of the body," he says, "the high frequency
of UV is more related to our conscious activity such as thinking,
imagination, creativity, intentions. Many people can even train
themselves to see shapes and colors of the high frequency part of an
aura and then read what they see."
We have very little awareness:
There is nothing mystical in this universe. One stops to agree and
believe anything which he either thinks isnot a subject of his
interest or he finds it to be beyond his intellectual capabilities.
That true! Everyone can not attain 100 % knowledge. Believe it, the
knowledge which we together have about the universe is probably less
than a fraction of per billion, not of a percentage. It means we are
simply aware of easily visible very limited and narrow physical
world. The spiritual masters, astronauts, sea divers &
scientists etc. are continuously surfacing new facts. Similarly Aura
study is also becoming a subject of interest for the curious people.
What constitutes Aura?
The Aura around humans is partly composed from EM (electromagnetic)
radiation, spanning from microwave, infrared (IR) to UV light. The
low frequency microwave and infrared part of the spectrum (body
heat) seems to be related to the low levels of the functioning of
our body (DNA structure, metabolism, circulation etc.) whereas high
frequency (UV part) is more related to our conscious activity such
as thinking, creativity, intentions, sense of humor and emotions.
Russian scientists, who seem to be about 3 decades ahead of everyone
else in Aura research, make experiments suggesting that our DNA can
be altered, by influencing its microwave Aura.

|
(A Negative Aura) |
The high frequency UV part is very important and most
interesting but largely unexplored. And this part can be seen with
naked eyes.
The formation, layers, shape, depth & multi colours of the Aura
make it so prominent, mystic and divine that it seems to be
indicating something very useful to mankind. Each Aura comprises
seven layers defines below:-
- Etheric layer : It shows the physical condition.
Generally It is found bright in a healthy person, pale in the
ailing person. ( A House With Negative Aura)
- Emotional layer : Indicates the status of emotions.
- Mental layer : It deals with the inner energy of a
person including his strong or weak will power.
- Astral layer : It is connected with heart, provides a
link between body, mind and soul and connects the individual
with other living beings in the universe. It is big and bright
in those who value relationships with others.
- Etheric template : The energy field of communication
and creative expression. Blockage, black-brown spots/ clouds or
darkness in this layer indicate the feeling of isolation.
- Celestial layer : Represents the visual senses. It
also reflects an individual's outlook about the rest of the
world.
- Ketheric layer : Linked with self confidence &
decision making ability. When it is shining brightly, it
indicates a mind unafraid of judgments and criticism by others.
Aura & Chakra
interconnected
Aura is a type of an energy shield that always keeps on
protecting us from the external and internal negative vibrations. In
an Aura photograph, the colorful bright spheres around the body show
the delight of our mind and positive state of our health, but black,
brown and dull spots, gaps, detached energy circles etc. tell the
weakness and abnormality with the particular organ. Our entire body
comprises of many energy centers called the CHAKRA. Each
Chakra has its own colours, which reflects in an Aura photograph.
Stress, illness, sorrow, tension, tiredness, negative thinking,
fear, anger & hate are known to be some of the internal factors
that adversely effect our Aura whereas negative surroundings like
staying for long in fungi effected or bad smelt premises, use of
liquors, tobacco, smoking, influence of bad community, friendship
with bad habit stuff, excess Electro Magnetic Radiations etc. are
few of the external negative influences.
Improving your Aura
Colours balancing, Yoga, meditation, Crystal therapy, Reiki, Pranic
healing, water therapy, Ayurvedic cures, Aroma therapy etc. are
commonly used therapies to improve subtle body energy i.e. Aura.
Early rising, chanting religious Mantras, positive thinking, sea
bathing and walk are the other methods to improve the symmetry,
circles and transparency of Auras colours. Controlling over
spicy food-stuff, junk food etc. and taking maximum fruits,
vegetables and balanced protein diet are generally helpful in
improving our Aura. But remember, only the regularity and continuity
in the above shall be useful whereas short term follow up shall
certainly make our Aura slightly better for a short span.
The Australian scientist Dr. Tom Chalklo rates meditation as the
best possible method of improving Auras. In an article on the
subject, he writes: "When we have a kaleidoscope of thoughts in
our mind, they override and disturb what our mind-body system would
do by itself. But when we manage to stop all thoughts, we give our
own body and mind the freedom of attaining its natural state of
being. In this state, our aura is not only stronger but also better
reflects our true nature better."
There are many aspects of the aura that yet remain unexplored but
with an increasing sensitivity and concerns towards the hitherto
unknown facets of human existence, perhaps we'll soon understand
this sparkling presence more deeply around us, and thus, connect to
our souls. That shall be a golden day for the entire humanity when
every one shall turn to be a through humanitarian, filled with truly
positive vibrations. He shall realize the real value of being sober,
gentle, helpful, soft spoken, kind, nature admiring and God fearing.
Can Aura be seen?
Yes, every one can easily see Aura with naked eyes if he could see
behind a person using the spiritual eye with the help of an Aura
practitioner. Nature gave us all that we need to see Auras. What is
required is the knowledge how to use your senses together with your
conscious effort. If you decide not to try, you will never see the
Aura. On the other hand, when you see something for yourself, no
longer will you need to rely on believing someone. Once you will
understand this phenomena, you can use your knowledge to learn more.
The first layer is rather more easy to see whereas second, third and
further layers need long practice that includes Pranayam, Yoga and
spiritual exercise after internal and external purification of self
for months together under the guidance of an expert. You may ask
your Vaastu & Aura consultant to arrange to show you the Aura
next time. Believe it, really it will be an amazing and wonderful
experience of your life because he shall show you what you never
thought or believed!!! Of course, as an anxious person, you deserve
to see to it.
Aura study is very useful too
 |
|
(A Plot with Weak Aura) |
Aura study & understanding to it is very useful in our
daily life. Texture and transparency of Aura colors and its
intensity, especially around and above the head have very special
meanings. By watching someone's aura, you can actually see the other
person's thoughts before you hear them expressed verbally. If they
do not agree with what this person is saying, you effectively see a
lie every time. No one can lie in front of you undetected. We cannot
fake the Aura. It shows our trueness and intentions for everyone to
see.
Aura is our spiritual signature also. When you see a person with a
bright, clean aura, you can be sure that such person is good and
spiritually balanced, even if he is modest and not aware of it. When
you see a person with a grey or dark Aura, you may be almost sure
that such person has unclear intentions, regardless how civilized,
eloquent, mannered, impressive, educated, good looking or well
dressed he seems to appear. It is especially important to check the
aura of any religious leader, "spiritual teacher", "master"
or a "guru". Such a person should have a clearly defined
yellow-golden halo around the head. If he does not have it, you are
much better on your own. In such case you are the best judge to
decide acceptance or rejection of his mastership because today most
of the Gurus or religious leaders are behind the power and money.
Dr. Anand Bhardwaj expertise on Vaastu & Aura
Study
Dr. Anand Bhardwaj is an internationally renowned seasoned Vaastu
practitioner & he has expertise on Aura study also. He always
uses a CESS (Computerized Energy Scanning System) that helps in
tracing out various positive & negative vibrations. Aura
matching of a person with his house, room, office or workplace is an
advanced & unique Vaastu technique being used by Dr.Anand
Bhardwaj. Marching with international ambience by keeping in the
front row, he keeps on updating his expertise technologically &
knowledge wise.
There is nothing "paranormal" in the Universe, except our
limited understanding of Nature. What we think we know on Earth now
is just a tiny drop in the Ocean of Knowledg. In the distant past,
people admired things they could not explain and called them "miracles".
Long ago, people were able to see Auras. Advanced spiritual people
such as Buddha, Christ and their immediate students were painted
with golden haloes around their heads, because some artists could
actually see Auras. In Australia remote West Kimberleys you can find
prehistoric cave paintings, many thousands of years old, depicting
people with golden haloes. Nature gave us ALL we need to see Auras.
All is required is the knowledge how to use your senses together
with your conscious effort. If you decide not to try, you will NEVER
see the Aura. On the other hand, when you SEE something for
yourself, no longer will you need to rely on believing someone. You
will KNOW. And you can use your knowledge to learn more.
Many great people in the past complained that "we have eyes
and we do not see". Further in this document you will discover
what they meant.
ANYONE can see auras to some degree. Rather than create an aura of
mystery around my newly acquired skill, my approach is to show
everyone what their eyes are capable of. When nearly everyone
(including children) sees a similar thing, I consider this a part of
our Nature and I say that it deserves our attention. There is
nothing "paranormal" in the Universe, except our limited
understanding of Nature. What we think we know on Earth now is just
a tiny drop in the Ocean of Knowledge.
Question: Can our Aura be improved with the help of
any other mysticIndia science?
Answer: Yes, other world recognized sciences like REIKI has
a power to help us improving our Aura. Here we shall give a brief
idea of REIKI by which energy of a human body, an object can be
improved, and Ah! The changed energy can be seen with the help of
energy Scanning technique. Reiki is really a powerful mean. Reiki is
said to be a form of spiritual practice used as a complementary
therapy for the treatment of physical, emotional, and mental
diseases.Mikao Usui is said to have developed Reiki when, he
claimed, he received the ability of 'healing without energy
depletion' after three weeks of fasting and meditating on Mount
Kurama, in Japan Practitioners use a technique similar to the laying
on of hands, which they say will "channel healing energy".
Practitioners state that energy flows through their palms to bring
about healing and that the method can be used for self-treatment as
well as treatment of others. Scientists such as Professor Edzard
Ernst are critical of the claims made for Reiki, holding that "[t]here
is no good evidence that Reiki is effective for any condition".
Derivation of name
The name Reiki derives from the Japanese pronunciation of two
Japanese characters that describe the energy itself: ' rei' (meaning
'unseen' or 'spiritual') and (Chinese qi, here meaning 'energy' or
'life force'). In English, the meaning of Reiki is often given as
'universal life energy' (a translation used by Hawayo Takata, see
History). The noun commonly refers to either the energy or the
therapeutic method which uses the energy. Reiki is also used as a
verb and an adjective. Japanese speakers use the term as a generic
'spiritual power' while the Usui Method of Reiki Healing is
specifically Usui reiki shiki ryoho. Similarly, the practice is
sometimes called Usui-do or Usui-no-michi ("the Way of Usui").
 |
|
(A Plot with Strongly Positive
Aura) |
Reiki teachings say that there is a universal "life
force" spiritual energy, that can be accessed by practitioners
to induce a healing effect. Believers say that anyone can gain
access to this energy by means of an attunement process carried out
by a Reiki Master. According to the U.S. National Center for
Complementary and Alternative Medicine, there are researchers who
have claimed to detect energy interactions between healers and those
they treat, but these claims have not been validated. Such energy,
if it exists, has no known theoretical or biophysical basis.
The belief is that the energy will flow through the practitioner's
hands whenever the hands are placed on, or held near a potential
recipient, who can be clothed. Some teachings stress the importance
of the practitioner's intention or presence in this process, while
others claim that the energy is drawn by the recipient's injury to
activate or enhance the natural healing processes. Going further,
the belief is that the energy is "intelligent", making
diagnosis unnecessary.
A second level of training, including another initiation, is said to
equip the practitioner to perform Reiki treatments from a distance.
This method, it is stated, involves the use of special symbols to
form a temporary connection between the practitioner and the
recipient, regardless of location, and then to send the Reiki
energy. Techniques are also taught whereby Reiki can be sent to a
specific point in time, either in the past or the future.
The energy involved in a Reiki treatment is said to be "from
the Universe", rather than the personal energy of the
practitioner, and is therefore inexhaustible. (Some teachings say
that the energy enters the practitioner through the crown chakra at
the top of the head, before being emitted from the hands.) As a
consequence, Reiki practitioners are taught that they can treat
themselves with Reiki.
Reiki is also used by practitioners to prevent illness as it is
claimed that the energy encourages healing before any noticeable
symptoms have emerged. Another consequence of the simplicity of
Reiki is that it can be taught to children.
Some believers state that if the intended recipient does not wish
to be healed then the energy will not flow.
Reiki is described by adherents as a holistic therapy which brings
about healing on physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels.
It is said that healing may occur in any or all of these domains in
a single treatment, without any conscious direction needed by either
the practitioner or the recipient. There is no scientific evidence
to support this technique as effective in the treatment of any
physical ailment beyond any other placebo.
Practice
Whole body treatment
In a typical whole-body Reiki treatment, the practitioner asks the
recipient to lie down, usually on a massage table, and relax. Loose,
comfortable clothing is usually worn during the treatment. The
practitioner might take a few moments to enter a calm or meditative
state of mind and mentally prepare for the treatment, that is
usually carried out without any unnecessary talking.
The treatment proceeds with the practitioner placing his hands on
the recipient in various positions. However, practitioners may use a
non-touching technique, where the hands are held a few centimetres
away from the recipient's body, for some or all of the positions.
The hands are usually kept still for 3 to 5 minutes before moving to
the next position. Overall, the hand positions usually give a
general coverage of the head, the front and back of the torso, the
knees and feet. Between 12 and 20 positions are used, with the whole
treatment lasting 45 to 90 minutes.
Some practitioners use a fixed set of hand positions. Others use
their intuition to guide them as to where treatment is needed,
sometimes starting the treatment with a 'scan' of the recipient to
find such areas. The intuitive approach might also lead to
individual positions being treated for much shorter or longer
periods of time.
It is reported that the recipient often feels warmth or tingling in
the area being treated, even when a non-touching approach is being
used. A state of deep relaxation, combined with a general feeling of
well-being, is usually the most noticeable immediate effect of the
treatment, although emotional releases can also occur. As the Reiki
treatment is said to be stimulating natural healing processes,
instantaneous 'cures' of specific health problems are not usually
observed. A series of three or more treatments, typically at
intervals of 1 to 7 days, is usually recommended if a chronic
condition is being addressed. Regular treatments, on an on-going
basis, can be used with the aim of maintaining well-being. The
interval between such treatments is typically in the range of 1 to 4
weeks, except in the case of self-treatment when a daily practice is
common.
Localized treatment
 |
|
(A House With Positive Aura) |
Localized Reiki treatments involve the practitioner's hands
being held on or near a specific part of the body. Recent injuries
are usually treated in this way, with the site of injury being
targeted. There is great variation in the duration of such
treatments, though 20 minutes might be typical.
Some practitioners use localized treatments for certain ailments,
and some publications have tabulated appropriate hand positions.
However, other practitioners prefer to use the whole body treatment
for all chronic conditions, on the grounds that it has a more
holistic effect. Another approach is to give a whole body treatment
first, followed by a localized treatment.
Informal treatment
Many practitioners use Reiki in an informal way, as part of social
interaction with friends or family members. In this style of use,
the practitioner places one or both hands on any part of the
recipient in a way that feels appropriate and comfortable in that
particular situation. Talking, and all other aspects of social
interaction continue as normal.
Self treatment
A Reiki practitioner can treat himself or herself with any of the
methods described above. In this case, the practitioner is also the
recipient.
Group treatment
A group treatment involves two or more Reiki practitioners treating
the same recipient, simultaneously. This is said to have a
significantly stronger effect than treatment from a single
practitioner.
Groups of practitioners can come together to share Reiki. In these
situations, each participant in turn acts as the recipient, with the
rest of the group giving the treatment. The number of people
involved is usually in the range 3 to 9. (Two practitioners can also
meet to exchange Reiki treatments.) If there are more than 8 or 9
participants, then they split into two or more groups for practical
reasons. The duration of treatment is such that the whole sharing
takes one to two hours (between 10 and 30 minutes per recipient).
Such a 'Reiki share' is often a social occasion, with the
practitioners talking throughout.
Treatment of animals and plants
Pets also receive Reiki vibrations:
Animals and plants are usually treated for shorter periods than
humans. The duration of treatment, and number of hand positions
used, depends on factors such as the size of the recipient and the
severity of the condition being addressed. In the absence of
disease, some practitioners enjoy giving Reiki to animals or plants,
as a loving interaction.
Spiritual practice
Many practitioners use Reiki as the basis of a spiritual practice,
or to augment other spiritual practices. The cornerstone of Reiki
spiritual practice is a daily one hour self-treatment, conducted in
a meditative frame of mind. As well as allegedly maintaining
physical, mental and emotional well-being, this practice is alleged
to enhance spiritual growth, potentially leading to
self-realization.
Many Reiki practitioners also undertake to observe the 5 Reiki
Principles recommended by Mikao Usui.
History
Origin
A Japanese Tendai Buddhist, Mikao Usui, is credited with creating
Reiki in 1922 after a twenty-one day retreat on Mount Kurama,
involving meditation, fasting, and prayer. Usui claimed that by
mystical revelation he had gained the knowledge and spiritual power
to apply and attune others to what is called Reiki.
In April 1922, Usui moved to Tokyo and founded the Usui Reiki Ryoho
Gakkai (Usui Reiki Healing Society).
Usui was an admirer of the literary works of Emperor Meiji, and, in
the process of developing his Reiki system, summarised some of the
emperor's works into a set of ethical principles, which later became
known as the Reiki Principles. Many Reiki teachers and practitioners
aim to abide by these five principles, one translation of which is:
The secret method of inviting good fortune.
The marvelous medicine for all sickness
Just for today:
Do not be angry
Do not be worried
Be grateful
Work hard (on improving yourself)
Be kind to others.
Every morning and every night, sit in the Gassho position [hands
held palm-to-palm] and speak these words out loud in your heart.
For the evolution of body and soul, Usui Reiki Ryoho" - Mikao
Usui, the founder.
Usui taught over 2000 students to use Reiki. Sixteen of his
students continued their training to reach the Shinpiden level,
equivalent to the Western third degree, or master level.
Usui died in 1926.
Early development
 |
|
(A House With Negative Aura) |
After Usui's death, Chujiro Hayashi a former student of Usui
left the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai and formed his own association.
Hayashi simplified the Reiki teachings, stressing physical healing
and using a more codified and simpler set of Reiki techniques.
Hayashi initiated and trained Hawayo Takata, who travelled widely
in the USA, practising Reiki and teaching the first two levels to
others.
Takata stressed the importance of charging money for Reiki
treatments and teachings. In 1976, Takata began teaching the
Shinpiden stage and introduced the term Reiki master for this level.
She also fixed a price of $10,000 for the master training.
Takata died in 1979 by which time she had trained 22 Reiki masters.
Almost all Reiki taught outside Japan can be attributed to her work.
Recent developments
Shortly before the death of Hawayo Takata in December 1980, Mrs.
Takata and Dr. Barbara Ray founded the American Reiki Association
(ARA) which later became the AIRA and is now The Radiance Technique
International Association Inc. (TRTIA). The organization
differentiates its teachings from those of other Reiki masters and
organizations, considering itself to be the one true continuation of
Takata's heritage.
Soon after the founding of the ARA, Phyllis Furumoto, a
granddaughter of Takata, founded The Reiki Alliance. Since 1988, the
Alliance has accepted Reiki Masters from a wide range of backgrounds
as members. Generic, New Age content is now often taught either as
an adjunct to Reiki or as an integral part of the system, and
numerous schools of thought now exist. Knowledge may be offered
either free of charge, while other knowledge is considered to be
proprietary.
The Reiki Network was formed as an organization to promote a
standardized teaching of traditional Reiki. In addition to the
teaching organizations, whose members are Reiki masters, many
communities of Reiki practitioners have formed.
Reiki practitioners operate in over 100 hospitals, medical clinics
and hospices in the USA.
Training
The teaching of Reiki outside of Japan is commonly divided into
three levels, or degrees.
First degree
The first degree Reiki course teaches the basic theories and
procedures of how to work with Reiki energy. The channel through
which Reiki energy passes to the practitioner is said to be opened
or widened through four "attunements" given to the student
by the teacher. Students learn hand placement positions on the
recipient's body that are thought to be most conducive to the
healing process in a whole body treatment. Having completed the
first degree course, the participant can treat himself and others
with Reiki. The course duration is typically two days, although this
varies widely.
Second degree
In the second degree Reiki course, the student learns the use of
three symbols (illustrated here: Reiki Symbols) which are said to
enhance the healing effect and allow for distance healing. Another
attunement is given which is said to further increase the capacity
for Reiki to flow through the student, as well as empowering the use
of the symbols. Having completed the second level, the student can
allegedly treat people with Reiki without being physically present
with the recipient. The first degree is a prerequisite for the
second degree, which is usually taught over two days, although this
varies considerably.
Third degree or master training
 |
|
(Aura of Tulsi Plant) |
Through the third degree, or "master training",
the student becomes a Reiki Master. (In Reiki terminology, the word
'master' does not imply spiritual enlightenment.) One or more
attunements are carried out and the student learns a further
master-level symbol. Having completed the master training, the new
Reiki Master can attune other people to Reiki and teach the three
degrees of Reiki. The first and second degrees are prerequisites for
the master training. The duration of the master training can be
anything from a day to a year or more, depending on the school and
philosophy of the Reiki Master giving the training. In the case of
comprehensive training, the third level is often broken into two or
three smaller stages of attunements and teaching.
Variations
There is much variation in training methods, speeds and costs, as
there is no regulation of Reiki. Students on the traditional path
may be made to wait up to a year or more after the first level,
before being allowed to learn the second degree, and thereafter many
more years before being taught the master level. Other teachers,
taking a non-traditional approach, might cover all three levels
within a few days. Correspondence courses over the Internet offer
distance training. Some traditionalists maintain that any method
that teaches Reiki "quickly" cannot yield as strong an
effect, because there is no substitute for experience and patient
mastery of the art.
Whilst masters affiliated to the Reiki Alliance or the Reiki
Network teach within the three level structure outlined above, The
Radiance Technique/Authentic Reiki teaches a seven level system.
Many independent teachers combine Reiki with other techniques, such
as working with crystals, colour therapy, spirit guides or
visualization. Such methods are sometimes included as part of a
Reiki course.
Scientific Research
Despite the thousands of anecdotal accounts describing the effects
of Reiki, there are only a few hundred articles and reviews about
Reiki published in scientific journals. Of these, only a handful of
studies fulfill the accepted criteria for a rigorous scientific
study, that is, a randomized, blinded placebo-controlled design. In
such studies, one group of participants receives Reiki, while
another group receives Sham Reiki, in which a person who has no
training or experience with energy healing is substituted for the
Reiki practitioner. The person performing Sham Reiki imitates the
hand positions of the Reiki practitioner and the subjects are not
told whether they are in the Reiki group or the Sham Reiki group. In
this way, the experimental results are corrected for the placebo
effect.
There are currently six studies, published in peer-reviewed
alternative medicine journals that are placebo-controlled. Of these,
four appear to support the hypothesis that Reiki improves
physiological well-being (reduced heart rate, blood pressure,
inflammation) and psychological mood (reduced anxiety and
depression) measures, and two do not report any significant effect.
However, in all the studies that showed positive effect, the number
of subjects was very small and the reported improvements also very
small.
There are currently no positive studies that have been accepted
into any science based medical publication.
Criticism
Effectiveness
Since there is no proven scientific mechanism for Reiki, The
National Council Against Health Fraud suggests that any therapeutic
effect may be due to the placebo effect. However, of six
placebo-controlled studies published in peer-reviewed scientific
journals, four showed statistically significant positive effects of
Reiki, both physiologically and emotionally, that could not be
explained by the placebo effect. Reiki has also been labelled as
merely a "feel-good" therapy, and that despite
practitioner claims that the practice does have therapeutic value,
recipients themselves do not expect any significant healing effects.
Safety
Concerns about safety in Reiki are similar to those of other
alternative medicines. Doctors of medicine and allied health care
workers believe that patients might avoid clinically proven
treatments for serious conditions, in favour of unproven alternative
medicines like Therapeutic touch and Reiki. Reiki practitioners may
encourage their clients to consult a medical doctor for serious
conditions, stating that Reiki can be used to complement
conventional medicine.
Religion
Fr. Tom Ingoldsby of the Salesian Order of the Roman Catholic
Church denounced Reiki as "opening the door to evil and occult
forces which have later side effects"., while there are
Christians who believe Reiki "creates a closer connection for
them to God".
In response to Fr. Ingoldsby's criticism, Reiki teacher and RFI
co-founder Angela Gorman, said it was understandable that some
people remained sceptical about complementary therapies but she
warned them not to be closed-minded to new ideas. Some people
opinions of Reiki are often anchored in ignorance and suspicion
rather than pure scientific fact, said Ms. Gorman, a former nurse.
Internal controversies
With the many varied ways that have been used to teach Reiki, there
have emerged points of controversy between different groups,
teachers and practitioners. Controversies exist on topics such as
the nature of the Reiki energy itself, fees charged for courses and
treatments, training methods, secrecy of symbols, and attunement
methods.

In today scenario, it has become essential for each Vaasthu shastra
advisor to be updated with all the knowledges which are there to
give all the happiness, which certainly comes from a mixed use of
all sciences including the Pranic Healing.
